The American dream is back but its changed

Two interesting articles have me hopeful for the future.  American Dream is back: 82% have ‘achieved’ or are ‘on way to achieving’

Three years after six in 10 Americans said their dream of a great life was unachievable, now 82 percent believe their either achieved the dream or are on their way.

This is wonderful news. Americans are optimistic about the future. What is more promising is The American Dream is Now About Family, Not Money.

It’s notable that respondents made it explicitly clear that the traditional indicators of the American dream aren’t relevant anymore. Around half say that owning a home and having a successful career aren’t essential. That could be related to the fact that homeownership has become harder and harder for a large share of American people. But more so, it shows that values of freedom and family are simply much more important to people than money.

I hope this new American dream is a rejection of modernity and materialism in favour  to a return of traditionalism.

To quote Patrick Bateman, “We have to encourage a return to traditional moral values. Most importantly, we have to promote general social concern and less materialism”
