and on 27 Nov in 1961; Gordie Howe becomes 1st to play in 1,000 NHL games

Howe was born to Ab and Katherine Howe in a farmhouse in Floral, Saskatchewan; he was one of nine siblings. When Gordie was nine days old, the Howes moved to Saskatoon, where his father worked as a labourer during the Depression. In the summers, Howe would work construction with his father.

He was mildly dyslexic growing up, but was physically beyond his years at an early age. Already six feet tall in his mid-teens, doctors feared a calcium deficiency and encouraged him to strengthen his spine with chin-ups. He began playing organized hockey at eight years old. Howe quit school during the Depression to work in construction, then left Saskatoon at sixteen to pursue his hockey career.

From 1946 to 1980, Howe played twenty-six seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) and six seasons in the World Hockey Association (WHA); his first 25 seasons were spent with the Detroit Red Wings. Nicknamed “Mr. Hockey”, Howe is considered one of the greatest hockey players of all time. A 23-time NHL All-Star, Howe held many of the sport’s scoring records until they were broken in the 1990s by Wayne Gretzky. Howe continues to hold NHL records for most games and seasons played.

The thrill of victory and agony of defeat at the Settrington Cup.

The 2018 Goodwood Revival featured what may have been the best Best Settrington Cup Ever. The Settrington Cup, a pedal car race between kids ages six to nine, part of the  Goodwood Revival festival.

The Goodwood Revival is a three-day festival held each September at Goodwood Circuit since 1998 for the types of road racing cars and motorcycle that would have competed during the circuit’s original period—1948–1966. The first Revival took place 50 years after the 9th Duke of Richmond and Gordon opened the motor racing track in 1948, driving around the circuit in a Bristol 400, then Britain’s state-of-the-art sporting saloon. Most people dress in period clothes. It is one of the world’s most popular motor race meetings and the only United Kingdom event which recreates the golden era of motorsport from the 1950s and 1960s.  (Via Wikipedia)
